Poems in the clouds

Image
I have always loved poetry as a child. I remembered jumping around repeating humpy dumpty over and over irritating all my family members.  Poetry is literature that evokes a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience or a specific emotional response through language chosen and arranged for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. I learned that poems use simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, alliteration and onomatopoeia I also learned that many poems have a specific rhyme scheme like AABB whereas, some poems may or may not rhyme Here is a video that shows my understanding of poems I hope it can help you understand and gain an understanding of why I love poetry.

Thesis Statement

Image
W hat Is A Thesis Statement?   This topic has filled me with joy and excitement because I was aware of a thesis statement from my previous classes did this is my understanding of thesis statements. In the simplest terms, a thesis statement is a short statement which provides an insight into what the essay is going to be about. They are used to enlighten the audience on a variety of things, including : ·          The main argument or point to be discussed. ·          The purpose of the essay. ·          The point of view of the author on a specific topic. I learned when writing a thesis statement, it is very important that you ensure it covers all of the above points in order for it to be effective. There are two main types of thesis statements, one being informative and one being persuasive. Depending on the type of essay that you are writing, will de...

The 6 Writing Treats

Image
The writing treats   What are the 6 Traits? The Six Traits of Writing are rooted in more than 50 years of research. This research reveals that all good writing has six key components such as ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. These key components provide teachers and students a common understanding of how to compose, revise, and assess all types of writing. They are inherent in well-written essays, reports, blogs, poems, videos, and other genres. Learning about these treats should not only be for the teacher but for the students also learning about these treats can help students to communicate about the strengths and weaknesses in writing. The Six Traits take the mystery out of what a “good” one looks and sounds like. The power in the traits is that they offer a mean of collectively grouping many skills together under one umbrella name Each trait represents related skills that have a similar impact on the overall writ...

Stages of Writing Development

Image
Welcome to the Stages of writing development club. Would you like to know how your child learns to write? Would you like to help your child in their writing process? Well, this club is the right place for you. Read all about the fascinating journey through the developmental stages of writing and how you can become involved and facilitate your child’s development. After I joined this club I became knowledgeable of the stages in writing development which helped me as a parent to assist my daughter. As I observed my daughter writing I came to the realization that she needed help and I was the only one that can give her the help needed.   This development is based on many factors as shown in the table below.  All  children  do not necessarily pass through the stages of writing development in early childhood at the same age or grades. However, it is important to be aware of the stages of their development so you can better assist the...

Let’s dive into Persuasive Writing

Image
Let’s dive into Persuasive Writing Persuasive writing This week's session has thought me that persuasive writing intends to convince readers to believe in an idea or opinion. It’s a form of non-fiction writing the writer uses to develop logical arguments, making use of carefully chosen words and phrases.   The things I have learned about others' writing is that some people may use criteria more than others, their ways of writing and some good things they do when making into's. Things that I have learned about my writing while reading others is the same mistakes I have made in my writing that I have made or things they have done that maybe I could do to make my writing better. When using criteria I have learned  to break it down into its parts and check that you have each component, that even the small details can make the whole paragraph come together and that the intro and conclusion meet many of the same criteria .  I have also learned that a  good piece of ...

Show, don't tell.

Image
Show, don’t tell        It's often quoted as "Show, don't tell" because, on the whole, beginner writers do too much telling when they should be showing. But of course, it's not nearly as simple as that. Both have their value; the key is to understand their respective strengths, and use each to your story's best advantage. Mind you, like everything in writing, it isn't even binary, but a spectrum, from the telliest tell, to the showiest show. This week session has shown me how I can enhance my stories by showing and not telling.      I learned Showing  sentence is for making the reader feel they’re in there: feel as in smell, touch, see, hear, believe the actual experience of the characters. As Ms. Gillian Lazarus s...
